More scenes from the Mekong Delta region

This is the Ho Xang Thoi Lake and neighborhood in Can Tho. A little quieter than the main tourist area and nice coffee shops.

Decorations for Lunar New Year are starting to pop up everywhere.

1985 Cafe was hosting a band practice.

The Taoist Ong Temple is down the street from our hotel. Built in the late 1800s.

Incense coils in the temple

Scenes from Mekong Delta islands tour

We left Can Tho before sunrise to sail up the river towards a floating market and the island of My Hoa Hung, which is classified as a "rural commune."

She is making incense for the temples on the island.
The brown powder is cinnamon.

Coconuts!

The island is known as "Tiger Island"-- in the past, tigers protected the Hoa Hao (reformist Buddhist) temple on the island. We rode bikes to the temple and did not see any tigers.

Porcupine at our lunch spot.

I can't post enough photos of food-- this was a delicious sour vegetarian broth with rice noodles, tofu, and vegetables.

Rice, coconut, peanut, a little salt, wrapped in a banana leaf and eaten with a sugarcane spoon.

Families live and work on the Mekong and Hau Rivers.

More Can Tho street views

This is an elementary school-- the scooters are the pick-up line.

I'll post photos from my work at the autism clinic next!
