early morning stroll through Can Tho

This past Saturday morning, just 'cause I could sleep in, I woke up at 6am with no hope of going back to sleep.  I decided to take advantage to the relatively cooler (???-- 85 instead of 90?) temps and clear sky to walk a long stretch along the Mekong River.  Here are some photos out and about in Can Tho:

The park across the street,
Uncle Ho (as he is often called)
featured prominently

Recent flooding has prompted some
major renovations at the pagoda down the street

Early morning wake up

Hai Ba Truong street

There are still some bikes out
early in the morning, but it
gets too scooter-crazy as the day goes on!

Outside the riverside produce market

The rain has definitely taken a toll
on the streets!

I haven't identified this vegetable yet. HUGE!
roosters

I am very into the dogs here, they are all a rather
uniform size and appearance, and they all seem to
have their own agendas. They walk down the street with great purpose.

The flower-pot looking item is an ong lau--
used for outdoor cooking

Pate (Pa Te) sandwiches

I don't want to taste DOGARLIC.
 I
Vegetarians! "Banh Mi Chay" guarantees you
delicious vegetarian sandwich

Always on the lookout for "Com Chay"-
vegetarian food

Durian fruit-- fascinating to look at, yummy
to eat, but smells like rotting flesh.  They are not
allowed to be carried onto airplanes.

I walked over a bridge that was _covered_ in this graffiti

Is this who I have to blame for the 2010 election outcome?

It RAINED all afternoon.  Major flooding.

Yes, those are people driving scooters through the flooded street.
Thanks to Stacy for some more Can Tho street shots below!
